We respond within seconds when every life counts
We provide 24/7 emergency prehospital care, with more than 700 ambulances deployed across the country through 111 auxiliary committees.
One of the country’s main emergency response services:
- We have a fleet of more than 700 vehicles.
- We respond to more than 500,000 emergencies every year—one emergency per minute.
- More than 6,500 Red Cross personnel provide humanitarian service.
- More than 134 structures are in place to respond to emergencies across the entire country.

We build stronger and healthier communities
We develop comprehensive community health, psychosocial support, and resilience programs, benefiting more than 50,000 people across the country’s nine regions.
The Costa Rican Red Cross, in the exercise of its auxiliary role, may establish services for disaster risk reduction and the promotion of community resilience, as well as for environmental protection, promoting a green response in each of the services provided by the institution, and helping prevent and mitigate the environmental impacts generated by climate change.
The Reference Center fosters collaborative knowledge-building processes together with National Societies, the IFRC, and other strategic partners working in the fields of community resilience and the environment.
The Community Resilience and Environment Reference Center (CRREC) is dedicated to strengthening communities’ capacity to prepare for, adapt to, and recover from risks and emergencies.
To this end, it promotes the training of staff and volunteers in resilience-related topics, develops and researches innovative solutions to challenges such as climate change, community health, and risk management, and fosters training spaces and opportunities for the exchange of experiences.
It also creates and improves practical tools and educational materials, and leads the design and monitoring of projects that enable the sharing of best practices and the generation of learning that benefits communities in different contexts.
